Altrincham’s proximity to quality schools, low to medium crime rate, and transport links to Manchester make it the best place to raise a family in England, according to brokerage Bell Financial Solutions.

The city has a £400,000 median sold price, while you can commute in under 30 minutes via tram or train.

Didsbury and Bramhall made up the rest of the top three, but were marked down due to a slightly higher crime rate in the former and expensive house prices in the latter.

Daniel Bell, director & mortgage adviser at Bell Financial Solutions, said: “There’s a lot to weigh up when choosing where to put down roots as a family, but focusing on a few key factors can make the decision far clearer. Price will always be a sticking point, but don’t just look at the value of the home you’re trying to buy. It’s just as important to look at the wider area to understand long-term value and how the community is developing.

“Strong schools and low crime levels are non-negotiables for most parents, but it’s rare to find them balanced with good transport links and access to a vibrant city centre. That’s what makes Altrincham such an appealing choice right now. It offers families the opportunity to enjoy a safe, well-connected, and supportive community without having to compromise on lifestyle.

“The more information you gather at the start of your search, the more confident you can be that you’re not just buying a house, but investing in a place where your family can thrive for years to come.”
